There are exceptions on the 5mm rule. R&TTE Directive (1999/5/EC): "The CE marking must have a height of at least 5 mm except where this is not possible on account of the nature of the apparatus."
Machinery Directive (98/37EC): "the various components of the CE marking must have substantially the same vertival dimension, which may not be less than 5 mm. This mimimum dimension may be waived for small-scale machinery."
