The Lathe is a servo system, but it may have the same problem.
I wonder if using the limit switch as a home switch also, is
creating some bug trick.
WOW; The "Override Limit" checkbox is so obvious it's embarrassing.
I had noticed it as inactive, but I was so distracted (annoyed) by the
big RED X that I never noticed it was active when on the limit switch.

Is it a stepper or servo machine? I vaguely recall half of a
conversation about this on IRC the other night saying it was tricky on
steppers (for a reason I am not entirely clear on).
I think it might require clever juggling in HAL

There is a checkbox "Ignore limits" on the axis main screen that
allows you to jog off the limits.
