I used to have DSL, but the cables in the area are so bad I now BARELY have plain phone service. We have a RT (remote terminal) half a mile away that works great, but you only get analog phone. We have a line to the CO that used to be 12,000 feet, just barely functional for DSL, but after rerouting the lines several times, it is now 18,000 feet, DSL is completely out.
So, the ONLY internet service is Charter Cable. They won't pay for proper access to the network backbone, so the ping times are insane, 60 ms to anywhere at best. When I go to work, I see what REAL internet is like, the difference is astounding! I can ping nodes in Japan (well, maybe not today) in 25 ms or so. We have no option, so Charter is practically the only game in town, and they act like they know it. We have a relatively new subdivision with $500,000 homes next door, and almost everything in the area is taxed as $300K or more. So, we are not out in the stix at all.
