Cast iron, nearly 3/4" thick, drill bit used is about 2 thou smaller than 
what the handbook says is the minor thread diameter. Since cheap drill 
bits always drill big, it seems to fit well. And the tap didn't load up 
excessively.  Resultant threads fit the bolts nicely.
