Kathy Wright is absolutely correct. Low self esteem is the poison that
keeps women, in the United States and many other "high tech" countries, in
roles of being battered and not achieving what they are quite capable of
in life. I speak from personal experience as well as those of close
friends who were also in similar situations. We were part of a support
group. With our group strength and counseling we grew, enhanced our self
esteem, and have gone on to professional careers. Most of us are in
careers that have to do with counseling and health care and many of us
have gone on attain bachelor's and master's degrees. With our bolstered
self esteem and group support we have not repeated the cycle of
battering/violence in our lives. We originally came together in the early
80s. Several of us now have wonderful marriages to supportive men, while
some have chosen to remain single after separating from their abusers.
We are, as a whole, a success story of how positive support can change
one's self esteem and turn one's life around for the best.

Why so many women have low self esteem is another topic that can be
debated.

Thank you for providing this communication vehicle.
