Re counselling for batterers -- how effective is counselling in general? I know plenty of people who've been in therapy of all sorts for YEARS without noticing much change in their behavior. And these are people who want to be in treatment, have searched for therapists to find one they like and trust, and who pay for it out of their own pockets, often rather a lot of money. I'm skeptical much can be achieved with short-term group therapy, especially for people who don't really have a problem with their own behavior and are only going because of a court order or other external pressure.
