What brand drive is that? Sounds like Western Digital, or, in rare
circumstances, an IBM failing, or about to.
The sounds seem to indicate that you have a bad area on the drive, or that
the head has a calibration problem on that area of the disk. Probably, a
total low-level format with locking out bad sectors might address that.
Still, a new drive is cheaper in the long run.
