Bill, depending on the drive, 'funny noises' could be normal, or the sign of impending trouble. If those noises sounds like a grating sound, you are looking at a future situation of total hard drive failure (that's usually bearings dying on you). If the drive hasn't made that sound before, but does now, I strongly recommend backing up VERY regularly what you have now, and investing into a new drive / drive upgrade.
