At a guess, you have a sector or group of sectors going bad. It's possible
that the head touched the platter at one point, or that there was a
manufacturing defect. Try running a surface scan with Drive Setup, and see
if there are any bad sectors. If you have bad sectors and are lucky, you
might be able to reformat the drive and map out the bad sectors. If not, you
will need to replace the drive.
