Well, if there are indeed install-related problems, the fact that Apple has drastically changed the underlying permissions model for software installations since Office v.X was originally released might have a little to do with it. Personally, I'm not entirely convinced that the installation itself is actually corrupted. Re-installing may be inadvertently resolving problems.
