Ed, I saw an extended trailer for that not to long ago and it seemed that to a degree the filmmaker may have been going for an analogy to the U.S. government's aggressive, imperialistic, interventionist foreign policies toward Middle Eastern nations and their natural resources over the last many decades. There is some kind of valuable natural resource on "Pandora" that the Earthlings covet (analogous to Middle Eastern oil). What do you think having seen the movie?

It is an AWESOME MOVIE!!! The special effects and computers graphics have broken new ground (believe it or not) and be sure to see this in 3-D. The plot has a similar theme to ³The Last Samurai² starring Tom Cruise except that this story is set in the year 2154 on the planet Pandora. There is a love story that evolves throughout the movie but the main thrust of the plot is environmental, ecological and spiritual. And of special interest to ENTS¹ members, trees are a big deal in the film. The Na¹vi, a group of aboriginal people to live on this planet have a tree as their home base: the trunk is about the size of several city blocks. Here is a synopsis of the film I took from Wikipedia: The film begins in the year 2154 and focuses on an epic conflict on Pandora, an inhabited Earth-sized moon <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extrasolar_moon> of Polyphemus, one of the three fictional gas giants <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gas_giant> orbiting Alpha Centauri A <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpha_Centauri_A> (the names Pandora <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pandora> and Polyphemus <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyphemus> are taken from two Greek <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greek> mythological figures). On Pandora, human colonists and the sapient <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sapience> humanoid indigenous inhabitants of Pandora, the Na'vi <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar_(2009_film)#Na.27vi> , engage in a war over the planet and the latter's continued existence. The film's title refers to the remotely controlled, genetically engineered <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_engineering> human-Na'vi bodies used by the film's human characters to interact with the natives.[4] <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar_(2009_film)#cite_note-Time-3> Ed Nizalowski Newark Valley, NY -- Eastern Native Tree Society http://www.nativetreesociety.org Send email to [email protected] Visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/entstrees?hl=en To unsubscribe send email to [email protected] -- Eastern Native Tree Society http://www.nativetreesociety.org Send email to [email protected] Visit this group at http://groups.google.com/group/entstrees?hl=en To unsubscribe send email to [email protected]
