I guess the movie was not terrible, but it was so disappointing.  With the CGI 
and graphics like nothing ever produced before, why could they not have 
actually had an interesting plot to go with the graphics?

LOTR is a great book, and I thought the movie adaptation of it was well done, 
not perfect, but well done.  It certainly would be in my top ten list of 
fantasy and science fiction movies.  LOTR tried to capture the scope and 
grandeur of the books.  Most adaptations are nothing more than a brief nod to 
the original story that has been reworked to fit the directors ego.
