Ed,
I have to say I liked avatar better than the lotr movies. That may  
partially be because I'm a big lotr fan and felt the movies didn't do  
the book justice, but I think avatar is a must see. I just saw it  
Christmas morning and found it visually spectacular, although I found  
your description of the storyline to be right on and was dissappointed  
they didn't want to be more original. It was kind of like American  
Indians (mixed with a little african) painted blue. Still a very good  
movie - I'd reccomend it to anyone, and it will be winning awards.
