Yes, this is correct. Sorry I wasn't perhaps clear enough in saying that
EOS 50e + 540EZ does not give you the ability to use E-TTL or FP flash,
only A-TTL, TTL and manual.

But this on the other hand, is wrong. EOS 50e can indeed do A-TTL, and
it will do A-TTL when used with 540EZ (direct flash) in P-mode (maybe even
greens and those also).
