Hi Chris,
No problem with either of those - 2nd curtain synch is
built into the 550EX and will work on any EOS body
that supports it (which the 1N does).
Slow sync is basically a function of the camera - if
your using AV or Tv the camera will meter the ambient
light and set appropriate shutter/aperture speeds for
that, in manual it's up to you. The flash then
exposes the foreground and the ambient metering
exposes the background. This is the default "slow
sync" mode that EOS bodies use. Nikon (and maybe
others) require you to set "slow sync" to "on" - by
default they act something like P mode on an EOS.
Incidentally in slow sync situations it's often better
to dial in a stop or more of -ve flash compensation,
so your subjects don't have that "scared rabbit in the
headlights" look about them - it's much more natural
looking.
