No, my point was that if Richard was already considering fast glass
like EF 85 f/1.8 and EF 100 f/2 or f/2.8, then a USM or HSM f/2.8 zoom
would provide AF performance in the same league. But, as you write,
maybe not in real life.
Would there be any interest if Canon could devise an EOS 3 custom
function to retain cross-type AF down to f/5.6 or f/8?
I didn't mention any other camera bodies, but since you brought it
up, perhaps a backup camera body other than an EOS 3 might be useful.
Are there any users of both the EOS 3, Elan 7E/30, or EOS 50?
How do the AF systems compare?
Speed of eye-control?
Mirror blackout?
AF tracking ability?
Focussing in Low light?
