Come on, Julian. I think you are now giving people a bit too much concern
for a thing that is not really that significant.
Either you are saying that they should get EOS 7 (or EOS 50, or...?) to
use with that lens, but even then the focusing would perhaps not be as
fast or as accurate as with EOS 3 (or EOS 1V). Actually it's very likely
that you don't gain anything.
Or what would you say to somebody with EOS 3 or EOS 1V (or EOS 1N...) if
they want to get long zooms like, EF 35-350mm F/3.5-5.6L USM or EF
100-400mm F/4.5-5.6 L IS USM or actually any other long Canon zoom except
the 70-200's? Or if they are looking for "cheaper" long prime lenses EF
400 F/5.6L or EF 500 F/4.5L? Would you still say that: "are you aware that
the EOS-3 will have less than optimal autofocus performance with these"?
Or if they are getting the EF 600mm F4L, whould you say that it works
optimally only with the middle point?
Sounds quite silly doesn't it? The same applies to 28-135 IS. If there
would be a 28-135 F/2.8 IS, then it would make some sens to point out that
one would get better performance out of that than the cheaper on. While
you might be techically right, the problem is still just noticeable...
well actually I haven't noticed it yet, but I believe some people can
notice it in some situations.
Best regards,
Hugo.
