This would also imply that they use a smaller angle on
the splits for the E-B & EC-B screens than on the L
type screens. This reduces "blackout" but the cost is
the loss of some focusing accuracy - or at least a
speed/accuracy compromise. The greater the angle the
faster the 2 halves "snap" into alignment plus finer
focusing is easier or at least more obvious.
Of course blackout on the L type screens could be more
of a problem purely due to the fact that not only do
you have to align your eye vertically with the split
to reduce blackout, you also have to simultaneously
align it horizontally with the vertical split! That
makes it much more likely to blackout even if the same
angle were used on the splits on all screens.
