It's 2% distortion, field curvature is something different. Anyway, 2% 
distortion IS visible on very critical scenes with long, absolutely 
straight lines next to the edges of the frame. I have done such pictures 
for test purposes, but never had bent lines jump out on me in real world 
pictures taken with the 20mm.

Well, I expect the Contax to be a little sharper, but the Canon is sure 
sharp enough.  Outside the test laboratory the difference may not 
matter. I never had to trash a picture yet because this lens wasn't up 
to the task. Even the zooms are well regarded lenses. George Lepp sings 
their praise in his book on EOS lenses. I don't know how independant he 
really is, though. ;-)
