Hi David,
Back in '87 I decided that it was time to upgrade from my "toy"
35mm camera. Not having seen many advertisements, I visited every
camera store in the Orange County, California area picking up
manufacturers' literature. Based on a thorough study of the
technical specifications and many conversations with sales clerks
I had the list narrowed down to three bodies ... all with very
similar capabilities. Then I spent quite a bit of time handling
all three ... "dry firing" so to speak. Canon was clearly the
winner, so I walked out the door with a 620, a 50mm f/1.8, and a
35-105mm f/3.5-4.5 and have never looked back. Twenty four years
later I still have my original stuff plus a -630, a -1, and a
D-30 ... and my sons each have -620s.
The only early (non-photo mag.) ads that I can recall were in
the late '80s in National Geographic touting the EOS-1.

Regards,
   -Nick T.
