Ok, reading these discussions, and other's, I am just curious - if E-TTL
requires this much user intervention, is it really that great a flash
system?

When I buy a super duper flash system that is 2x the price of the other
flashes, I expect it to work well in point and shoot mode, which is
something I need if I am doing candid photography. Esp. with D30, it seems
thyrstor flashes work much better for p&s.

what do you think? Why are we paying this muhc money for 550ex (other then
extra feature like wireless etc), if it can;t take consistent pictures? Why
is this so hard compared to using evaluative metering of the camera which
works pretty decent?
