I assume you are talking about comparative cost between online and traditional retailers. You might be surprised, many traditional shops price match, or stay low on price anyway. You mention the 28-135 IS you bought on e-bay for $300. My local store had the same lens in the same condition a couple of months ago for $325. Isn't it worth $25 to be able to examine your purchase ahead of time? As far as new equipment goes, this same shop uses online retailers as a pricing guide, charging anywhere from the same to 20% more than their online competition.
