Guess they've gone to the forums at www.dpreview.com

Actually, no. In their last issue, Chasseur D'Images talks about an EOS 3D for the Photokina and also of the end of the EOS 10D production. Their not the kind of magazine to spread rumours without have a minimum degree of certainty that they make become true. Apart from that, I won't take a genius to figure out that Canon _must_ release a new DSLR at the Photokina. Not doing so would very negative for their image (not to say "suicidal") and even worse for their sales. The only remaining questions are: what camera and where will it fit inside the EOS-D range?

When business takes me away from home I kill some time by looking for EOS bargains at the local camera shops.

Back in June I happened on a Canon Day at a shop. I asked the Canon rep, knowing that even if he knew, he wouldn't tell me, what was happening with the 10D.
I figured that with the new 1D mkII a 10D mkII might be around the corner. I don't want to buy a 10D today and find the 10D mkII available tomorrow.

As expected, he didn't know anything. He asked what I would like to see, an 8MP sensor? The Digic II chip? Fire wire and USB? Somewhere in our conversation I heard Photokina mentioned.

Scanning the mail order prices, I notice a $100 drop. Not much, but a hint of things to come?
