So I have to assume that 1280 by 1024 is correct for this screen
ratio, as it
fills the screen and produces a truly round circle. I don't think my
screen is
any different ratio than others.
I don't see why a CRT would be any different though in showing a
circle as
round.
The 19" LCDs are made in the 5:4 aspect shape. All the CRT monitors
I've known are in 4:3 shape. You need a resolution with the same
ratios to get proper geometry, unless your LCD has non-square pixels
(very uncommon for computer displays).
Now, 98% of people will not notice the difference if the resolution is
misadjusted, as the distortion is on the order of 6% linearly. There
are plently of people who don't notice the 33% difference between 4:3
video and 16:9 HD format if one is displayed as the other. The eye and
brain can be wonderfully flexible...
