Looking at flat panel specs has been "interesting" to say the least. I always thought that higher contrast ratios were a good thing although I came across an inexpensive screen claiming a ratio of 2000:1 while many of the more expensive screens (Apple, HP, etc) were in the 800:1 to 1000:1 range.
One factor I had to keep in mind was local service availability. I live 800 Kms (500 miles) from a large city and about 1600 Kms (1000 miles) from most service centers. This limited my choices to the products a local service depot supports (Dell, HP, IBM & SamSung)
I think I've settled on the HP LP2065 (20"), although HP's 24" unit has slightly better specs and a larger viewing area it's almost twice the price. Locally (Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada) the HP 20" is $554 and the 24" is $990.
