Scott, According to the O-200 Overhaul manual, you shouldn't get to 7.3-7.7 gph till you are at 80% power around 2570 rpm. [Figure 43. Fuel Flow Limits vs R.P.M. at Propeller Load, Model O-200. Page 113 in my copy.] At 60% power (2330 rpm), the chart shows 6 gph. At 70% power (2450 rpm), the chart chows 6.5 gph. That fuel consumption should go DOWN as you climb and lean. If you're burning more than that you might want to investigate why. But for normal every day flying around, I dont find the O-200 to be very efficiant. I am hardpressed to get mine below 7.5 gal/hr. I have the marvel carb too.
