3/4 of the main tanks for 160 nm? Is that 3/4 by the fuel gauge or 12 gallons by the pump? Which model of Coupe do you have and what size are your main tanks? What's your cruising speed by GPS and by airspeed? Have you ever calibrated your airspeed indicator? (If not, fly DIRECTLY upwind and write down the GPS speed, then fly DIRECTLY downwind and write down the GPS speed, then average.) Your FBO might have a tach checker he can use on you in five minutes. (I've read discussions saying people got accurate results by going to the hobby store for a digital tach checker for model planes.) I've got a personal theory that a C-85 pulling the plane through the air at 100 mph will use about the same fuel as an O-200 pulling the same plane through the air at 100 mph. I don't think either engine is so badly designed as to show a big fuel consumption difference doing the same job. Also, after you put in your EGT, read the chapter called something like Thin Air at the back of Stick and Rudder. You'll find that you can get AMAZING fuel efficiency at 8-12k feet while still going pretty fast. The view can be kind of boring up there but on a long cross country, it pays off. You should be able to make the downwind leg of your 940 smi trip to Daytona with only two fuel stops. (I did 990 miles from Iowa City to Chester, Connecticut with two fuel stops and three on the way back.) When you figure that each fuel stop takes an hour or more to descent, land, get fuel, take off and get on-route. (Hint: When doing LONG cross-country legs, don't drink anything before you go. Take a drink with you in case you get too thirsty.) I am also going to get my tach checked to see how off it is. I dont like burning that much fuel. Especially when I want to go somewhere. Recently I found that when I fly from school back home I can do the round trip, but not much more. It is 80nm each way. With a tailwind one way and a headwind the other, the 160nm comes out to about 3/4 of the mains. I hope I figure this out before Daytona. It is about 819nm. I would like to do it with only 3 stops. But we'll see. Scott N94428 ========================================================================== ==== To leave this forum go to: http://ercoupers.com/lists.htm
