Wait, really?!?

I’m completely new to the area of home backup, but this announcement is in-line 
with the time that I’m researching solar for our home (on-grid). It doesn’t 
make sense given our 1-2day/year electricity outages to backup.  Even with that 
though, how is $5k possible?
