And regarding backfeeding,
that problem is obvious when using a genset that is incorrectly connected,
but solar (especially the modern grid-interactive solar) can never backfeed
due to the implemented double or triple protection against "islanding".

Depending on how Tesla chooses to run and protect the packs, and the type of
cell construction and chemistry, there is no reason for 5000 cycles to be
unobtainable. I feel certain they will choose small cylindrical cells - which
is a good choice for cooling, for resistance to expansion, automated
construction (consistency). From previous commentary I have the impression
they planned to cool stationary packs (who knows if that was primarily for
residential or industrial application), they have clearly thought about it, and
are as knowledgeable as anyone.

I expect the utilities to be the biggest drag on the system. My friends at
Duke Progress sell me cheap power ($0.097/kWh all day long), but they hate
letting anyone have control in their stead.

I am sympathetic from the POV of line workers, having been a utility tree
cutter in my youth. You really want to know the lines are not fed from two
directions.
