But surely this isn't true for a digital computer. The fact that one computer 
is painted a 
different colour or the wires have a different resistance compared to another 
computer 
cannot make a difference to how the computation "feels", if a computation can 
feel.

There must be some level of tolerance for physical change in the brain or you 
wouldn't 
feel yourself to be the same person from moment to moment. But suppose that the 
distant copy has whatever it takes to create the same conscious experience as 
the 
original would have had. Do you still think it is possible that psychological 
continuity might 
not be preserved between copy and original despite this? I don't see how that 
is logically 
possible, since if the copy lacked this feeling of continuity then it would not 
be a sufficiently 
close copy.
