Are We Really Conscious?
By MICHAEL S. A. GRAZIANO
This is the most non sensical question I can ever imagine.
The question makes sense only to conscious being.
OF the three most fundamental scientific questions about the human
condition, two have been answered.
First, what is our relationship to the rest of the universe?
Copernicus answered that one. We're not at the center. We're a speck
in a large place.
He showed only that our apparent bodies are apparently a speck in a
vaster place. We accumulated some evidences for that idea, but we
still don't know, if only because we are a long way from a consensus
on the meaning of the quantum, and even the meaning of arithmetic.
Second, what is our relationship to the diversity of life? Darwin
answered that one.
Yes, but Darwin use computationalism explicitly, and if Darwin's
explanation can work, it has to be extended on all computations in
arithmetic, which leads to generalize Darwin (and Everett) on
arithmetic.
Biologically speaking, we're not a special act of creation. We're a
twig on the tree of evolution.
That's why biology fails on consciousness. I think. Like physics.
Those continue to flirt with eliminativisme, like with the title of
the thread and paper here.
