No kidding. Although I have no idea why you're making a big deal of this,
presumably you know all this stuff. But to recap - evolution is a process
through which organisms gradually become better adapted to living in their
environment through differential reproductive success. As I mentioned, it's
possible that consciousness helps increase the chances of that success.
Also, clearly, massive extinction events are outside the purview of
evolutionary theory - but so what? You appear to be nitpicking, or rather
not even that since so far you don't appear to have actually picked any.
