Get to the point where BackupExec only need tape changes? Only a few days. We were a BackupExec 8.x shop before hand, but I chose to do a complete remove and install when going to v9.1. I'm sure upgrading would have been just as good, but I wanted to know EXACTLY what was getting backed up, what accounts were being used, etc.... Building the new backup jobs accomplished that.
The VS160 drives seem to run for about three months before they start going offline for no reason. I've tried using Veritas drivers, microsoft drivers and even Quantum supplied OEM drivers. Nothing changes. The only thing that temporarily fixed the problem is bouncing the power on the tape drive. Since the tape drives are inside of servers, resetting the drives can be a perilous adventure. Dell swears there is nothing wrong with the Quantum VS160 drive.
