That may be true. At my site, our backup needs are modest in comparison to some other listmember's installations.

I would not recommend Backup Exec, simple things like not taking in to effect the change in day light savings can have massive impacts on production backups. Veritas have not patched this problem and it has been persistent for the entire life of version 9x. We have a full support contract with them and about half a dozen incidents they have been unable to fix. We have many workarounds to deal with the problems the software has, which is apparent in a more complex environment using SAN/SAN backups/ Multiple fiber attached libraries etc. If you need a simple upgrade from NT Backup then consider backup exec, but if you need an enterprise backup solution I suggest you use the money to go with something more serious. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Eric Fretz Sent: Wednesday, January 26, 2005 10:46 AM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: RE: Backup software Get to the point where BackupExec only need tape changes? Only a few days. We were a BackupExec 8.x shop before hand, but I chose to do a complete remove and install when going to v9.1. I'm sure upgrading would have been just as good, but I wanted to know EXACTLY what was getting backed up, what accounts were being used, etc.... Building the new backup jobs accomplished that. The VS160 drives seem to run for about three months before they start going offline for no reason. I've tried using Veritas drivers, microsoft drivers and even Quantum supplied OEM drivers. Nothing changes. The only thing that temporarily fixed the problem is bouncing the power on the tape drive. Since the tape drives are inside of servers, resetting the drives can be a perilous adventure. Dell swears there is nothing wrong with the Quantum VS160 drive. I have a stack of RMA labels that argue otherwise. -----Original Message----- From: Chris H [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, January 26, 2005 12:36 PM To: Exchange Discussions Subject: Re: Backup software How long did it take you to get to that point?
