As I understand it, an "alternative to TM" has been part of the Quiet Time program from the beginning. Kids and parents get to choose whether the kids will practice TM or some alternative (although that alternative might itself be religious, e.g., silent prayer).
It seems that some of the schools might attempt to put a secular alternative to TM in place for 'quiet time'.
