Well, actually, it's gotten me thinking about which,
if any, of the teachings and interactions I've had
with spiritual teachers or teachings in the past
I still feel were productive, in the sense that they
enabled realization.

On first examination, I can find only one -- the live,
in-person interaction with "places of power." That
was transformative, whether the power place in ques-
tion was a fixed geographical one or a "movable"
power place, in the form of a person who was more
advanced in some way than myself.

In both cases, the experience of interacting with
them and being in an energy field that was "firing
on more cylinders" than I was at the time, always
opened me to the possibility that *I* could "fire
on more cylinders." I never think of such inter-
actions with teachers in terms of darshan or
transmission; it's not as if they were really
*doing* anything. All that was necessary was to
be in their presence and then "recognition" took
over. In them I could *recognize* attributes of
myself that I was not using, and they were. Same
with some of the geographical power places.

In contrast, I can think of very few bits of dogma
or intellectual knowledge that ever did me much
good, or that "lasted" very long before I ran into
the limitations of believing them.
