I refused transfusions for Nitnoy because it would have meant leaving her at the er vet's overnight in a cold, unfamiliar place by herself. She was so ill, I could not do that to her. I think that leaving her there away from her home would have done her more harm than good. As it was, I could see she was failing so I tucked an incontinent pad under her bottom, and held her in my arms. She died while kneading my shoulder and purring. She knew she was loved and I think that was more important. Often, we want to do all we can to save their lives, we think surely we can do it. We need to think more about their wellbeing, peace of mind. I miss her dearly and buried her next to her favorite sitting stump in the front yard. She will never be forgotten and I would have preferred to keep her with me always, but I had to think of her first and not myself. It is hard to make these decisions. We feel compelled to do all within our power to save them, but in the end is it for them or for ourselves. It was the same for my father, he was in extreme pain, had given up, did not want to go on so I kept him at home and did what I could to make him comfortable, I was bathing him when he passed, he knew he was loved, that is more important. Be strong for your baby.
