So much for "let's end the offtopic discussion"...-__- But really, this
should be the last of this discussion on the FFML. It no longer has ANYTHING
TO DO with the fanfic being discussed.

It's not an "automatic assumption", it's conjecture based on a large number
of factors concerning the entire situation.
It has nothing to do with his age or his gender. It has everything to do
with the fact that he is the most powerful Hyuuga to emerge from his
generation. If he is entered into a marriage with Hanabi to strengthen the
blood of the main family, there is every real chance that Hiashi will
convince the elders--who are not at all remotely ignorant of Neji's
potential--to unseal him and instate him as the head of clan. It will not be
an easy consensus, and it won't happen without an uphill battle against the
traditionalists among the clan elders. However, given that the current
generation is far more progressive in mindset, and that the current
leadership of the village is less close-minded and obsessed with tradition,
and that the Hyuuga are the last "great clan" left, it makes sense, from
every real, logical standpoint, to shuffle the deck and place Neji in a
position of real authority within the clan.
Actually, the simplest way of facilitating this would be to retroactively
declare Hiashi branch and Hizashi head. Since Hizashi is already dead, only
his name is of consequence, and Hiashi would take the cursed seal and a
position in the branch family alongside his eldest daughter. Then Neji is de
facto head, Hanabi is consort, and everything is tied up nice and neat.
There's at least fifty thousand potential fanfics in this entire concept of
the Hyuuga clan politics, so instead of arguing about it, we should all get
to writing our scenarios for it. :)
