You mention the fleece is a lamb's fleece, so maybe (if shorn at 6 months) it doesn't have a very distinct tog and thel?

I've separated the two from an adult fleece and had no problem--the difference was very obvious. In some cases, I just grasped the cut end and pulled, while holding the tip firmly, and that did a fine job. Other times, I used a blending hackle (clamped to my work table, it has one row of teeth) and pulled the lock through it, holding the tip firmly, and it caught all the thel.

So what you've done should work....unless the tog and thel are as yet nearly the same length and/or thickness.

enjoying the first storm of winter--about 10 inches of snow over 2 days. And we haven't put the plow on yet!
