I really appreciate all the feedback, public and private. I wish I could buy all the looms recommended, but there's not space in the house or the budget :)

I can only buy from the list I gave...Ashford, Louet, Schacht, Norwood, and LeClerc.

Overall, people have recommended Schacht the most of these looms. I agree that not having the back-hinged treadle is a shame, but I've lived with standard treadles for over 17 years now, so I guess I'll manage a while longer :)

In the spring there will be a bonfire party at my house, and everyone from Fibernet and the upper Midwest is invited! I'll provide the food and entertainment--bring a dish to share if you like. Bring your wheels, looms, knitting, whatever you like fiberish to do. We'll dance round the bonfire, watch the lambs hop around like popcorn, skirt whatever wool has been shorn, and fiber to our hearts' content, while my Harrisville loom burns merrily!

No, I'm not kidding! It will probably be near the beginning of May. Our snow started a month (well, actually more like 6 weeks) early this year, so I'm guessing spring will be late and mud season will take that long to be over.

I'll add the bonfire party to the FAQ as we get closer to the time :)

Anyone who needs some replacement parts off a Harrisville 40" 8 shaft loom, let me know now. If you pay shipping, I'll send any parts in good order that you need off to you before the bonfire (after I get my new loom and it's set up and working well), or you can pick them up during the party. Hmmmm....I might *pay* someone to take the tie-up chains! <g>
