I'd love to hear more details from those of you planning to make clothes
from your handspun, to be used in re-enacting. I can't wait until the
Michael Ryder book comes out, to get more info on fleece types at
various places/times, as I want to do some reproduction
spinning/weaving. I did a piece, dated around 1000 CE, from the York
book, but I used Icelandic, which wasn't really suitable, so it didn't
work out very well--had to cut the piece off the loom after just 8
inches, because the warp was shredding so badly.
I think some primitive-style Shetland fleeces might be what's needed for
that sort of early weaving, but that's just a guess based on the very
sketchy info I have so far. Can't wait til THE book on wool is back out!
