Guess with asking the question, I forgot to comment on my fav's. My first
serious fleece was a coated Romney - I loved the fragrance, luster and
softness so much I spun the whole thing in the grease. My Mom had peered
into the box of fleece, asking "how do you know where to start?" To which I
replied "Anywhere you want to!" That's been close to 15 years or more ago.
Coated Romney Hoggett fleece from the same farm is still my bottom line.
That said my next favorite is Jacob - for the happy surprises encountered in
spinning it at random colorwise and it weaves up making more pleasant
surprises in the color changes using singles. Shetland is ditto. However,
I have discovered coated Romney/Corriedale crosses - the softness of the
Corrie plus the luster of the Romney in natural colors - does it get any
better than this?
And I have a nice selection of various breed fleeces in my stash waiting,
but we won't go there.....
