I was actually asked to stop crocheting in a meeting once! This was a supposedly low-key, informal, wear jeans and a t-shirt out-of-office meeting to iron out some differences among the staff. We had a hired mediator present! The mediator asked me to stop - said my crocheting made him 'tense' ... however he allowed another woman to continually tap a pencil on a table top non-stop! Egads. I spoke to him later and told him I was quite offended and pointed out the pencil tapping. He said he hadn't noticed. I guess we all have different 'norms'.
