I'm trying once more for the list and not only to Johannes:

And in the Friedrich Kuhlau Concertino for two horns and orchestra (c.
1822) there is a charming passage in the end where the solists are muted
echoing the orchastral horns.

But I am pretty sure the opening of Haydn's Creation would ask for muted
horn as well (are there horns in the opening), as it does so even for
the clarinets - how do you mute a clarinet.

But unfortunately I don't know the answer - I am not a wind player. For
us violins it's easy, just put a little device on your bridge. Even a
paper clip will do in emergencies.
