Though it's not that difficult. While entering V2, the stem direction will always follow the place of your cursor. If he's below the attaching note of V1, the stems will go down, if above, they will go up. The stems of V1 react accordingly: with cursor under, all V1 will push up, with cursor above, all go down. So in some cases you become cross notes, when entering a lower V2 while your cursor is above....

I wish I could explain things better in english, but do you get the point ?

Finale is so dadgum ^%$# unreliable as to how it does the stems in voices,
I'll use another layer just out of frustration of getting them all like
they're supposed to be. I really wish Coda would address that, because it
can be a multi-step operation to fix the stems. Once in awhile it does them
right, but I've never figured out what rules it is following so as to get
them to come out right the first time every time.
