Is the *text* gone, too, or just the text block assigned to a page? 
You can check by selecting the text tool, then on the Text menu, 
choosing Edit Text, and cycling through the text blocks. This UI 
seems to be a legacy of the ancient text interface (which was 
terrible), but does allow you to create and edit text that is not 
assigned to anything in your score. I use such a non-assigned text 
block for keeping track of readings in original sources that I'm 
changing in my Finale score.
