OK: I've got two oboe parts on a single staff, and I want to make two
parts for the players. Under previous versions of Finale I would
extract the 2-oboe staff; split it into two staves using TGTools/

expression/articulation/smart-shape positioning issues, etc.; then
reextract the two staves into separate parts. How would I do this
under
Finale 2K7?
1. Make a copy of the score.
2. If necessary, add staves to the copy so that you have exactly
the same number of staves as parts.
3. Use TGTools/Smart Extraction to explode the music so that all
the parts look correct on a staff by staff basis.
4. Clean up as needed. I usually repeat steps 2 & 3 in small chunks
rather than attempting to run it all at once. Ymmv.
5. Add cues as needed.
6. Go into Manage Parts and generate all the parts. Until you've
used Fin07, this will not make sense, so take my word for it.
7. Page layout each part as needed. (They are all in the same doc.)
Or, you can continue to work as you do now. Unfortunately, there
are a few features of Extract Parts that do not work as well as
before, but they slip my mind at the moment.
In theory, you might be able to work with the original of your
score without making a copy. In practice, steps 2-5 will probably
trash your score view, hence my recommendation to have a separate
copy for the parts.
This is, as I had feared, what the linked score and parts turn out to
be - unlinked in fact.
If you have to make a copy of the score to extract the parts from,
this is the same as before, except all the parts are in one file. If
you make changes to the parts, they will NOT be reflected in the
score if you have made a copy.
