Now it's really getting confusing. I've never seen an alternator with studs, except the big battery wire. There should be a two wire plug with spade terminals as well. If the alternator is externally regulated, the spade terminals will be side by side (II) If it is internally regulated they will be in a row (--).

Music to my ears. So now I'm thnking that whoever took this stuff apart 20 years ago missunderstood the purpose of the horn/buzzer relay and mistakenly labeled it as regulator (the wires match your decriptin) and that the alternater is actually got an internal regulator. Do you have any idea of whether the alternators that were internal had a plug in on the back or used studs to connect the wiring? Mine has studs.
