Life is good. I found the lock. It had fallen into the coil spring seat, hidden
behind the shock mount bolt and underneath a coil. Check out the pick of the
little devil trying to hide from me:

I actually checked this area at least 4 times. I was seriously about to give
up. I spent about an hour with a mirror and flashlight rotating the crank about
20 degress at a time and checking every possible view I could create to get a
glimpse at the valley pan. No lock. Looked for another hour every possible nook
and cranny all over the subframe. I had all but given up when I had the
thought...maybe it got stuck in the brake rotor fin. Took the tire off, checked
the rotor, no lock. Decided to take one last look at the spring seat since
without the tire offered better access and a better view. There it was hiding
shamelessly. Rediculous amount of time wasted on this but at least I have the
piece of mind.
