First Generation Firebird-L Mailing List ......................................................................... Sheen,
You did the right thing by counting all the parts involved in the surgery. I changed the intake manifold on my 4.6L Crown Vic (they are known to crack when one is a long way from home, so I swapped it out on my shedule) and I lost a damned intake bolt somewhere. I searched and searched and was about to just buy another bolt. I tried to blame it as landing on the frame or the transmission or some other cozy invisible place. I just couldn't convince myself there should be any extra parts left over and uncounted. I finally found the lost bolt leaning against a valve stem inside the head. I guess it took me an extra two hours to find it. These extra left over bits can ruin the job. I'm sure my lost bolt would have scrogged the works when I was a thousand miles from home. I'm glad you found the lost part. Now you can finish up without worry. Careful work is rewarded by doing the job only once. Life is good. I found the lock. It had fallen into the coil spring seat, hidden behind the shock mount bolt and underneath a coil.
